Gilbert’s Rainbow

In June 2012 Rog and I are holidaying in San Francisco during Pride Week. We drop into an HIV fundraising pop-up store, just opposite the HRC store, on Castro Street. They’re selling artworks by Gilbert Baker.

Gilbert Baker (2012)

Gilbert’s an artist and gay rights activist who designed the rainbow flag in 1978. His flag has become internationally associated with rainbow rights and a symbol of pride for many people.

Gilbert is due to take part in the upcoming (and massive) Pride Parade on Sunday as a Grand Marshall. And fortunately for us, he’ll be in-store on Saturday signing artworks. So we come back and meet him, and thank him for his work and ask for his signature on the back of this beautiful original…
